First ride on new board

Dylan spent most of his birthday at Cub Camp. That evening we took Dylan, Gavin and 4 of Dylan’s friends boating on Hagg Lake for his birthday party. We ate pizza, pulled kids on tubes and let Dylan try out his new wakeboard. It was a bit windy most of the evening, but it died down with less than an hour before they close the park gates. We were the last boat off the water and last ones out the gate.

Dolphin Grace

Gavin and Grace are getting caught up with swim team. They got two weeks in before all the travel in July. Now they are back at it. Yesterday was their second swim meet. Gavin won all his heats and will find out tomorrow where he placed overall. Grace swam her heart out finishing all her heats and getting a second place. She is the smallest by quite a bit. They practice daily for an hour at the club. During that hour Dylan climbs the rock wall or practices lacrosse.

Gavin, Grace and Boomer

Gavin (nostril), Grace (mouth)

Took Gavin and Grace to the Portland Beavers baseball game last night. They are a triple-A farm team for the SD Padres. It was fun. They got several homers, won, had lots of activities for kids. If we had stayed in our seats we at the top of the 4th we could have grabbed a foul ball. We were on our way back up when one landed 6-7 seats over in an empty section.

Last Tuesday, on Shannon’s b-day, we drove up to the Provinces (BC) to drop the kids off with Papa and LoLo. Shannon and I spent the night, then we departed on a couple’s cycling trip in the San Juan Island in Puget Sound. There were 26 in our group. We camped on Orcas Island and did day trips from there. It was great fun. The first two days were a little drizzly, but the last two days were gorgeous. Wednesday we rode Shaw Island, Thursday we rode up Mt Constitution (highest point in the SJ’s) then Lopez Island. On Friday we did a 26 mile ride on San Juan Island, leaving out of Friday Harbor. Saturday we took the ferry back to the mainland. Shannon went to BC and I rode back to Portland.

Today is an exceptionally beautiful day. It’s 81 degrees, sunny and it’s so clear Mt Baker on the Canadian border, is clearly visible (along with Mt Hood, Mt St Helen’s, Mt Adams and Mt Rainier).

relaxing on the h-boat

We had a great time houseboating on Lake Shasta with Shannon’s sister and her family: 7 children 10 and under, four adults. The weather was perfect, got in lots of boating, canoeing, fishing and good eating (uncle Don is a great cook!).

Shasta Facts:
Volcanos sited: 2: Shasta and Lassen
Things that fell in the lake:
Card from card game
Awning post (recovered)
Gavin’s Old Navy 4th of July t-shirt (put on the snorkel gear and recovered it: right under the middle of the h-boat)
Camera (recovered, but hasn’t been the same since…time for a new one anyway)
The one allen wrench that tightens the wakeboard rack
Wildlife spotted: bald eagle, blue heron, deer (came right up to the boat and wouldn’t go away), toad, lizard, osprey, bass.
Price of gas on the lake $3.96 to $4.95/ gallon!!!

Gavin was baptized on Saturday, July 1st. My parents came on Thursday night, Shannon’s parents came on Saturday with her brother and Gavin’s cousin Mike. They also dropped off two Sacramento cousins for us to bring to Lake Shasta with us.
