Happy Thanksgiving

Cancun

Grace and Jack

We headed a bit further south for Thanksgiving this year. We spent it in Cancun with Shannon’s sister and her family. This was our 4th trip to Cancun and it is still my favorite beach in the world: warm aqua marine water and white sand. Couldn’t find the Utah-BYU game on TV, but I tracked it on my Blackberry…Utah triumphed. The first part of the week was pretty windy, but the wind kicked up tasty waves that we eventually got to ride (on boogie boards that cost $60 each to bring with us!!). We rented a car and drove out to Chichen Itza with our kids. The drive there was easy and well marked, but the way back ended up being an adventure. The day after Thanksgiving we took a ferry over to Isla Mujeres and spent the day there. The kids swam with a shark (dolphins are for wimps) and I snorkeled with them. Also saw a cool sea turtle rescue operation.

Choices

Maserati

Cheverolet

The choice for a new car came down to a Maserati Quattroporte (Italian for “four doors”) or a Chevrolet Malibu. I test drove both, but chose the Malibu because a) it has an iPod audio input jack, b) it has Bluetooth and c) work is paying for it. Both have paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

JT & Jake

We went to UT for the weekend to welcome my nephew JT back from Japan and help send Jake off to Peru. Their talks were great in the shared program. We were also there for their little brother Will’s baptism on Saturday. Stocked up on “U” gear for me and the boys. The store we went to didn’t have anything small enough for Grace, so she got a tiny football jersey of a different color.

This was my day Friday: wake up in Dallas after a week of mind-numbing meetings, fly back to LA. Shannon and the kids met me a the airport at 3 PM and we drove straight thru to Bountiful. Got in at 2 AM local time, Saturday morning.

Dylan’s writing assignment: Whom I Look Up To

Filed under: General — Shannon @ 9:17 pm

I look up to my dad because he’s a good example, fun to be with, and adventuresome.
My dad is a good example for many reasons. It’s important to my dad to be healthy so he doesn’t smoke or drink. He’s educated and works to support my family. He also reads a lot and that shows reading is important.
My dad is fun because he takes my family places. He bought a camping van has taken us camping a lot. He takes us boating and pulls us on the tube. We have gone to many movies with him.
My father is also adventurous. He climbed Mt. Hood and The Grand Teton in Wyoming. He has traveled to Europe, Ecuador, and Indonesia, and Canada. He likes to try new things.
My dad is a good example, fun to be with and adventurous. These are a few reasons why I look up to my dad.

Black Out

Utes

Winning TD

I liked the “black out” look the Utes were sporting…until they started losing. A 4th down pass (shortly after throwing 6 incomplete passes in a row) into double coverage with less than 1 minute left won the game. Amazing!!

winding up for a shot on goal

Saturday I shot up to Vegas for the day to watch my nephew play his last lacrosse game before his mission. He played great and the team looked great.

Guess what Grace wants to be when she grows up?
