Chloe

Grace had another dog sitting gig last weekend: Chloe the Shitzu and Cookie the golden lab. That brought the pet total up to 9 (2 beta fish, 5 hamsters, 2 dogs). With the dogs and extra hamsters gone we are down to 4 pets.

Baby hamster

Saturday we dispersed the hamster babies. One stayed here, two went to two separate family friends and the evil looking white one went back to the pet store (because they sold the white elephant gift purchaser a pregnant hamster).

Weekend in San Diego

Stagecoach Century

uphill both ways

I rode in my second Stagecoach Century on Saturday. There are usually only 2 stop signs on the whole course, but this year, right at the entry into the Anza Borrego state park, there was an impromptu border patrol inspection site (they waved my thru..). Like last year, the weather was amazing: ~75 degrees and sunny. Unlike last year, not much of a headwind on the way back!! Knowing what to expect also made this year better.

Family near Mission Bay

Brought the family this year. We stayed at the Residence Inn Downtown SD. Shannon took the kids to the San Diego zoo while I rode in the desert. They had a great time…the gorillas were a big hit. We met back at the hotel, soaked in the hot tub, then went to dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. We then shared a Ghiradelli brownie sundae for dessert.

Finally got to tour the USS Midway aircraft carrier…AMAZING!! How does something that big float? They have a great collection of warplanes on the flight deck. We played 3 or 4 games of Ticket to Ride. Also went rollerblading around Mission Bay.

Air show

air show

I took the kids to an air show at the little airport ~3 miles from our house on Saturday. Sky divers dropped in with a flag, saw some cool planes, there were some amazing acrobatics going on. One of the pilots cut his engine, did a couple flips, landed and rolled right to his spot without power.

Yesterday I did a 30 mile ride on the Santa Ana River Trail from Weir Canyon near Corona to Anaheim stadium. Nice trail and gorgeous day: mid 70s light breeze that smelled like eucalyptus with hint of salty marsh. Tuning up for a century later this month.

First NHL Game

LA Kings

I finally made it to my first NHL hockey game last night. Went with Shannon’s brother Dave, his children and my boys. It was awesome!! The Kings were playing the Ducks and actually beat them 4-3. They went up 3-0, the Ducks scored 3, then the Kings got one more with less than 5 minutes left in the third period. The speed and athleticism of the players was amazing. One of the Kings players did this spin move right in front of the goal and scored. The tickets were practically free: $99 for 2 tickets to 4 games and they throw in a $50 gift card for the ESPNZone AND a commemorative glass and coaster.

Final AP college football rankings:
1.Florida
2.Utah
3.USC
4.Texas
5.Oklahoma
6.Alabama
7.TCU
8.Penn St.
9.Ohio St.
10.Oregon.

I can live with that. I have degrees from 2 of the top 10! I’m glad Oklahoma (can’t stand their coach) and Ohio State (consistently OVER-Rated) LOST!!
